Frank L Garrett Construction recently completed a full interior trim and finish carpentry package for a newly built accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Tumalo, Oregon. This approximately 800-square-foot living space was designed with a clean, modern apartment-style aesthetic, and the finish carpentry played a critical role in bringing that vision to life.
The project included installation of all interior baseboards, a complete interior door package, and custom trim work around each doorway, including carefully fitted door casings and headers. Frank also installed custom window sills throughout the space, creating consistent architectural detail and a polished, finished look across every room.
This project utilized paint-grade MDF trim, which was professionally finished in white to complement the modern interior design. When properly installed and finished, paint-grade materials like MDF can create a smooth, refined appearance that enhances the overall space while maintaining durability and long-term stability.
In addition to the trim package, Frank assisted with cabinetry installation and completed the finish trim around the kitchen cabinetry, ensuring tight joints, precise alignment, and a seamless built-in appearance. He also constructed a custom closet system featuring shelving and dedicated upper and lower hanging sections, providing both functionality and efficient use of space.
One of the more intricate aspects of this project involved the interior wall depth, which was significantly thicker than standard door jamb dimensions. To ensure a proper fit, Frank fabricated custom jamb extensions using biscuit joinery. This technique allowed each extension to integrate seamlessly with the door frames, creating strong, stable joints and a flawless finished appearance that blends naturally with the surrounding trim work.
